Dr. Mutiso trained in general medicine, specialized in psychiatry and also did post graduate training in clinical psychology.

He worked as a general medical practitioner, consultant psychiatrist and medical superintendent in the formal sector. From 1990 he left formal employment and went into private practice in order to give him self flexibility to train others in mental health issues.

He taught a pastoral counseling course at the Nairobi Evangelical Graduate School of Theology for ten years. He had a three year stint as the Chief Executive Officer of Amani Counselling Centre and Training Institute, a premier counselling and training institution in Kenya.

He gave leadership of the Ministry of Healing and Biblical Counselling as the Executive Chairman. This is an interdenominational parachurch organization serving the Church in equipping the saints in four specific areas; Biblical Counselling, Prayer, Spiritual Warfare and Healing.

He is the chairman of the Board of Directors, SAPTA and Chairman of SAPTA Trust He has been chairman of Kenya Psychiatrist Association (KPA) 2011-2014 He is married to Beatrice a medical research scientist and both are blessed with two college age young men.
